Kathryn is very caring and professional. The surgery has changed my life. I had a polyp blocking me from going to the loo and 360 circumference of very large and sore skin tags. The surgery went well and apart from the initial aesthetic it was not painful. I had packing put up inside and passing that was very painful. I was given co-codamol to take for the pain but chose not to take it as I don’t like the feeling and constipation associated with it. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen and had lots of hot salty baths and used a back vibrator to help with the pain. The main discomfort occurred after passing a stool and I soaked in the bath after to allow everything to relax. I needed a week off work and I started late at work for about one week after that as I still need my baths in the morning. Even though it was not comfortable I am so pleased I have had the procedure. I am no longer sore down there, wiping isn’t an issue and my polyp blocking me from going to the loo is a thing of the past, I am so relieved! It was definitely worth it. A big thank you to Dr McCarthy

I had a 2ww cystoscopy for IDA. Miss McCarthy introduced herself to me and explained the procedure and sedation that I would be having very well and answered my questions. She was empathic when I discussed how awful I had found the bowel prep. She introduced me to the other team members present, informing me who would do what. I felt she performed the colonoscopy with great skill and I had no pain. I was very comfortable with her performing this sensitive procedure on me. Miss McCarthy explained throughout the colonoscopy what she was doing and the findings (including showing me on the screen). I was very pleased to be awake during the colonoscopy and we were able to discuss relevant issues as they arose. At the end of the procedure she explained the further tests I needed and said she would request these. She also gave me advice how I could mange some of my bowel problems myself, which I found very helpful (and have already added kefir to my diet). I left with a helpful written summary of the procedure and the findings.

The McCarthy clinic was all round incredible for my procedure. Kathryn was kind, helpful and reassuring. She provided the exact help I needed and I wouldn’t hesitate to return if I needed help in the future.

I shadowed Miss McCarthy as a 3rd Year Medical Student during a Colonoscopy Clinic. Miss McCarthy was very helpful with explaining what goes on during a Colonoscopy and answering any questions I had about Lower GI Surgery or the career of a Lower GI Surgeon. I hope to shadow Miss McCarthy for a Lower GI surgery in the near future.
